Share

If you’re like us, you’re all about the facts. So when you start learning about the latest health craze or superfood, you want to know as much about it as possible.

When it comes to medicinal mushrooms, they’ve been used for thousands of years to support good health in humans and animals. But sometimes internet research can provide too much information. That’s why we’ve put together a list of our favourite resources to arm you with the right information about medicinal mushrooms.

Paul Stamets — mushroom legend

We are constantly impressed by all that Paul Stamets has done to raise the profile of medicinal mushrooms around the world. From TED talks to podcasts, he spends his life researching and educating the public about the life-changing benefits of mushrooms.

Paul has an active YouTube channel and we particularly love his TEDMED talk, which covers the antimicrobial properties of mushrooms, as well as how they can be used to boost our immune systems. And his hat is a mushroom, people!

Medicinal mushrooms — a new horizon

There are a number of scientific studies about the benefits of medicinal mushrooms, though more research is always needed. This study found that mushrooms not only have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, they are a rich source of anti-cancer and immunomodulating agents.

The beauty of mushrooms

Vogue Australia is certainly on board with the benefits of medicinal mushrooms and let’s face it: If you’re healthy on the inside, it’s going to shine through on the outside too. This article outlines lots of ways that mushrooms can help you look and feel great, every day.

Mushroom mania

Never one to be left behind, Fast Company has written numerous articles about unique uses of mushrooms. From bike helmets, making vegan leather, slowing climate change, and even mushroom suits that help bodies decompose, it’s a veritable treasure trove of mushroom content.

But the article we’re most interested in is the one about the soaring popularity of mushrooms as a health supplement all over the world. There’s some great insight into the importance of knowing where your mushrooms are grown (in our case, they’re mostly grown in our shed!) because environmental factors can really affect the potency of mushies.

Research rules

When it comes to your health, research is key. And, of course, be sure to check with your doctor before you start any supplements, particularly if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication. Oh, and happy reading!
